Heavy Lifting: Should You Do It?

February 28, 2020

Are you planning on moving in the near future? Do you have heavy furniture that needs to be packed and transferred to your new home? If your answer to either of these two questions is yes, you may have a plan and that involves handling everything yourself.

While it can be tempting to do all on your own, you should be aware of the fact that heavy lifting presents a serious risk of injury. You can become hurt in the process, suffering from back injury, broken toes or various sprains. Keep on reading and discover whether it is really worth pursuing such endeavors, or if professional movers would be a better choice.

What does heavy lifting entail?

As you might already know, this kind of   lifting  refers to any piece of furniture or object, which bears a significant weight. Wardrobes, beds, desks, sideboards, pianos – these are only a few examples. Heavy lifting is not to be done just by anyone, given the obvious risk of injury and the potential to damage the carried goods.

When wondering how much does a professional moving company cost, try to analyze the estimate offered, while taking into account the benefits offered. Do not go thinking that nothing can go wrong, as heavy lifting is not for everyone.

Potential dangers of heavy lifting

In our daily activities, our back muscles are not required to handle this kind of effort. This is why, upon lifting a heavy object, we expose ourselves to the risk of back injuries. The vertebras become misaligned and we incur the danger of a slipped disc, or hernia.

The strain on the body can lead to muscle damage, with pain preventing movement. It is also possible that one might suffer various  injuries , when the heavy objects are dropped; broken toes are quite common in such situations. Joint and ligament damage can happen, with the respective joints becoming painful and stiff.

Wrist injuries occur more often than one might think, due to the fact that hands are not kept in a correct position. One might end up spraining or even breaking the respective wrist, losing function in the hand. Shoulder injuries appear in those who carry heavy objects on one part of the body, with strains being most common.

Professional movers, the solution to the problem

In order to be protected from the risk of injury, the solution is to hire a team of professional movers. These guys have both the necessary skills and expertise to ensure problem-free heavy lifting. They have been trained to protect themselves from potential injuries, as well as to avoid any damage to your belongings.

The lifting and transportation of heavy objects is not something to be achieved alone. Even if you have friends who are willing to help you, remember that they do not have the necessary qualifications to handle heavy lifting. Moreover, professional movers will use specific equipment to make the job easier, such as moving dollies.

How to hire a moving company?

The process is quite simple. All you have to do is go online and find a reputable team of movers to help you out. Talk to them about any concerns you might have, including when it comes to the heavy lifting.

Upon reaching an agreement with regard to the payment, you can ask for more details. For instance, you can ask how to pack for a moving company. They might be able to provide valuable advice on how to pack your belongings, or, in some cases, even help you with this process. Good luck and, remember, heavy lifting is not a one-person job, and is best left in the hands of professionals!
